Hello,

I use Jomres for almost 2 years, but have lot's of problems with SEO. I never have any problem to do good SEO for Joomla site, until this Jomres site...

For start, I have some sugestion...:
1) Location station will be great, if you put it on city link...not in every property

Now, I have some question, so if someone please help me:
1) When I create city menu item, link it's not same like link in list view (for example this is link from demo when you click on city link: userdemo.jomres.net/en/bookings/search/town/london and when I create in menu it's totaly diferent). Does anyone have idea how to fix it? I try to create out link in menu item but then I can associate module or create custom description tag.
2) How can I block google to index properties links? I want to enable just to index city or country links, not properties (i change properties almost every 15,20 days).

That's it for now. And if someone have any good idea to enprove SEO on Jomres site, please share it :)

Thank you in advance

Easy. Use the WordPress version of Jomres.

Donnacha,

I know you know there's no "Joomla version" or "Wordpress version" :D

There's just Jomres, which works in either CMS.

FWIW I'm not going to get involved in this conversation as it's integrators ( that's you people ) who are the real experts at this and I want to hear what you have to say. Personally I prefer the Joomla way of building SEF urls over the WP way, but that's a technical position, not a "users" position so I'm interested in hearing the current thinking of this coversation from you.

Vince, SEO is not just sef url's. It's probably not so easy to do, but Jomres is not prepare for good SEO. I give few reasons in first post...

Because that I ask advice from people who use Jomres longer than me.

I also preffer Joomla for SEO purposes, of course SEO is not just SEF url's but it is a important part and there are not SEF url for Jomres when on WP.

I would need to see a screenshot of what you're referring to. Search results are just search results, the layout etc should look the same even if the properties are different.

One way you could do it is like this :

header("X-Robots-Tag: noindex, nofollow", true);

( developers.google.com/search/reference/robots_meta_tag )

I haven't tried it, as most people want the big G to index properties, but if you want this you could put it into the top script ( github.com/WoollyinWalesIT/jomres/blob/m...optemplate.class.php ) probably at about L28. See if that works for you. The toptemplate script creates the "properties header" ( snippets.jomres.net/2018-03-05_cyidj.png ) so basically any page where that template is shown, then the crawlers shouldn't index it.

If you are going to modify that file, please bear in mind the advice in the first bullet point on this page www.jomres.net/manual/developers-guide/52-customising-jomres

Thank you for quick reply.

Thi is print screen how it's look, so on first image you can see that when I click on link for ccountry Greece (Grčka on my language) link look like: ponude/search/zemlja/gr but when I create menu item with country, it's look like: ponude/grčka

So I basicly get 2 page's for same content, that's not good for SEO. I use that menu item because I need to write custom meta title, descr and keywords and associate module to that page. There is one solution to create menu item of out link in Joomla, but then I can't add that custom meta data and can't associate module, that's a problem.

I hope that you understand me, sorry because my bad English :)

thank you in advance

This. I don't mean to offend anyone here, but Rade specifically asked if there was any way to improve SEO "on Jomres site". He did not limit the scope of his question to "Jomres using Joomla".

He clearly wants to improve the overall rankings of his sites and, regardless of anyone's tribal feelings, WordPress has a far more advanced eco-system of plugins and services tackling SEO, not to mention Google's own heavy engagement and investment of resources into WordPress ( https://searchengineland.com/need-speed-google-dedicates-engineering-team-accelerate-development-wordpress-ecosystem-291214https://searchengineland.com/need-speed-google-dedicates-engineering-team-accelerate-development-wordpress-ecosystem-291214 ).

Semantics :D

Of course you prefer Joomla, you work pretty much exclusively with it, you've made a huge investment of time and effort into it, but your primary focus is development, not SEO.

Rodrigo Rocco wrote: of course SEO is not just SEF url's but it is a important part and there are not SEF url for Jomres when on WP.

Your point actually makes the case for WordPress: as Jomres does not have SEF URLs, regardless of whether you run it alongside Joomla or WordPress, any discussion of SEO has to involve all the other aspects of SEO that aren't SEF URLs, and how the content outside Jomres can be optimized -
any Jomres user concerned about SEO is going to be spending time creating and optimizing content in their CMS, Jomres itself is largely irrelevant at that stage.

Putting all tribal loyalties aside, WordPress clearly has better SEO tools, and is generally acknowledged to be, for whatever reasons, more effective at ranking quickly. That is the main reason why it has grown to 60% of the CMS market and 30% of all websites - trends evolve towards what works.

Jomres has SEF url's with Joomla, natively or with sh404SEF component and the instegration plugin.

Raise a ticket about this so that we don't forget about it, the forum's not a good place for questions like this as it can be easily missed when other people reply to posts.

Ok, no problem. I have pointed out several times to this "problem", I think it will be useful for all jomers users.

I'm sure it will, however we don't spend a lot of time on the forum, whereas we do spend a lot of time in the tickets and tickets are automatically visible until they're dealt with.

ABOUT US

Vince portrait smallaladar

Developed and maintained by Vince Wooll and Aladar Barthi, Jomres was initially conceived in early 2005 as a Mambo based solution to a client’s hotel management needs. While it wasn't originally expected to be an online booking system it quickly morphed into one as users requested more and more features.

As the number of feature requests grew Vince knew that he would need to dedicate more time to the project and in July 2005 Jomres was formally released as a commercial project. Since then, Jomres has become one of Mambo’s, and now Joomla’s, longest running projects. It has survived various versions of Mambo, then Joomla 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.5 and 3.

Aladar joined the project in 2010 after using Jomres for his own projects. He was active on the forum, helping other members of the community and eventually Vince invited him to join the team. He has since become an integral part of the project and has contributed significantly to it's development over the years.

Whilst not formally part of the Jomres project, Rodrigo Rocco and the team have become firm friends. Rod is a freelancer who specialises in doing custom work for Jomres users and developing custom plugins for the system that take advantage of it's modular design. He has built many useful extensions including his fabulous new Valentina Template Package.
