When you make a different choice from the order drop down, the properties do not change their position from the original order.
I suppose the order choice function does not work, how can this be verified and repaired?

You`re using the featured_properties plugin, which means that the feature properties will always be displayed first, no matter the sort option. Only the rest of the properties will get sorted.

I know the order in featured properties.
Please go to www.travelsouthitaly.com and then click on menu reservation. The order from the drop down menu there doesn't work

All 5 of your properties are "featured" which means the order dropdown won`t affect their display order in any way. Their order will be the one you set in the backend cpanel->featured properties.
So if all your properties are featured, better just disable the dropdown because it`s useless in such case.

OK, but the order they show is not the order I have set in the featured properties admin.
You can see the featured properties order in the home page.
There seems to be no connection between featured properties & property search .

I think that I had a similar problem a while back with featured properties. In the end our workaround was to use the Stars. Thus if we want a property to appear #1 we give it 5 stars, 2nd - 4 stars, etc.

We then changed the default order to Order by Stars. We also disabled the stars from appearing on the Property List and the Property Details (in case people thought that it was a comment on the quality of the villa).

This is not ideal, but for us it gives us more control on the display of properties in the list (we have over 300 properties). Featured properties doesn't really give you this kind of ordering control.

I`m not sure what featured properties plugin version are you using, but in the latest version you can manually order featured properties by entering a order number for each next to the checkbox that makes them featured...this way you can sort a lot of featured properties.

We tried to use this, but we could never get it to work properly. Hence our work around with the Stars. I think that it was a conflict with our template, rather than the featured properties plug in.

Make sure you have the "order" column in the jos_jomresportal_featured_properties table. That`s the most common reason why ordering doesn`t work.

ABOUT US

Vince portrait smallaladar

Developed and maintained by Vince Wooll and Aladar Barthi, Jomres was initially conceived in early 2005 as a Mambo based solution to a client’s hotel management needs. While it wasn't originally expected to be an online booking system it quickly morphed into one as users requested more and more features.

As the number of feature requests grew Vince knew that he would need to dedicate more time to the project and in July 2005 Jomres was formally released as a commercial project. Since then, Jomres has become one of Mambo’s, and now Joomla’s, longest running projects. It has survived various versions of Mambo, then Joomla 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.5 and 3.

Aladar joined the project in 2010 after using Jomres for his own projects. He was active on the forum, helping other members of the community and eventually Vince invited him to join the team. He has since become an integral part of the project and has contributed significantly to it's development over the years.

Whilst not formally part of the Jomres project, Rodrigo Rocco and the team have become firm friends. Rod is a freelancer who specialises in doing custom work for Jomres users and developing custom plugins for the system that take advantage of it's modular design. He has built many useful extensions including his fabulous new Valentina Template Package.
