How to easily update to the Nightly Branch

Joomla & WordPress

You've almost certainly seen references to the Nightly branch of Jomres in articles.

It's where I put changes that will eventually be added to the next release of Jomres Core. This gives you time to experiment with new features before they're added to Core, for example you may decide that you want to experiment with a new feature that has been released to see if it'll be good for you.

How do you do that?

Firstly, please don't do this on your live server. Use a Staging server .

To install the Nightly branch

  1. Go to Administrator > Jomres > Settings > Site Configuration.
  2. Go to the Debugging tab and change "Production or Development?" to Development
  3. Save
  4. Next go to Administrator > Jomres > Dashboard > Updates and click Update Jomres Now

That's it, that's all you need to do. Your installation will be running the latest version of Jomres Core.

Don't forget, afterwards, to set "Production or Development?" back to Production.

It may be that you're unable to access Jomres via the CMS's administrator menu, for some reason. If so, and if you're advised to update to the Nightly branch because there's a fix for the problem you're experiencing, you can set the CMS to debugging mode and use the Install from Web feature of the CMS. Search for Jomres, and install that way. Because the debugging mode is enabled then the Nightly version will be downloaded instead of the current release.

In Joomla set debugging on in Global Configuration. In Wordpress you'll need to edit wp_config.php to enable debugging.

vince picDeveloped and maintained by Vince Wooll, Jomres was initially conceived in early 2005 as a Mambo based solution to a client’s hotel management needs. While it wasn't originally expected to be an online booking system it quickly morphed into one as users requested more and more features.

As the number of feature requests grew Vince knew that he would need to dedicate more time to the project and in July 2005 Jomres was released as a commercial project. Since then Jomres has become the world's oldest online booking plugin for any PHP CMS. It has been used in Joomla 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, 3 & 4 and WordPress 4, 5 & 6.

Aladar joined the project in 2010 after using Jomres for his own projects. He was active on the forum, helping other members of the community and eventually Vince invited him to join the team. Between 2010 and 2018 he was an integral part of the project and made many significant contributions.

Whilst not formally part of the Jomres project, Rodrigo Rocco and Vince have become firm friends. Rod is a freelancer who specialises in doing custom work for Jomres users and developing custom plugins for the system that take advantage of it's modular design. He has built many useful extensions including his fabulous Valentina Template Override Package.
