Jomres 9.21.4 released

While the version number might look trivial, what it brings is not.

This version is the culmination of almost a year and a half of tweaks and adjustments that were made to allow Jomres Core to work alongside the new Channel Management Framework plugins, which I'm delighted to announce are now ready.

Jomres CMF plugins map domains

If you've been following my posts about this subject, you'll be aware that the CMF is actually a set of new plugins that are designed to offer some new functionality that vastly increases the connectivity of Jomres to the rest of the world, in particular to Channel Managers.

This version allows you to install the CMF REST API plugin, the Channel Management Framework plugin, and the first complete version of Jomres2jomres

The purpose of the functionality is to allow you to create a network of Jomres sites where Properties, pricing, availability and bookings are shared from a parent to child servers. This allows you to, if you want, entirely bypass the need to be connected to any Channel Managers at all. Instead you'll create properties on one site and share them on one or more child sites. This makes your main server the Channel Manager and the individual child sites the OTAs.

The magic of Jomres2jomres isn't just how you can create your own network of sites, but potentially you could create properties on one site and share them on one or more child sites, whether owned by you or other Jomres users. Jomres2jomres provdes the foundation for that, it's now down to you to see how far you can run with it.

More thin plugins will arrive in the future. The Rentals United plugin is approximately 60% done and next on the list to be completed.

I can't emphasise enough how excited I am by these changes. In the post-Coronavirus world my users will need all of the advantages they can get. This new functionality means that they will be able to offer connectivity to more than one Channel Manager on their (unlimited number of) installations and even, if they want, do away with channel managers altogether.

This is a unique and signficant evolution of the system. Absolutely no other Open Source online booking engine offers this much connectivity and it puts Jomres head and shoulders, once again, above it's competitors. I'm incredibly proud of it, in the 15 years I've been working on Jomres this code is the best code I've ever written.

Do you want to know more? If so, head over to the CMF category on the manual to learn about these new developments. I hope that you will be as excited about it's potential as I am.

ABOUT US

vince picDeveloped and maintained by Vince Wooll, Jomres was initially conceived in early 2005 as a Mambo based solution to a client’s hotel management needs. While it wasn't originally expected to be an online booking system it quickly morphed into one as users requested more and more features.

As the number of feature requests grew Vince knew that he would need to dedicate more time to the project and in July 2005 Jomres was formally released as a commercial project. Since then, Jomres has become one of Mambo’s, and now Joomla’s, longest running projects. It has survived various versions of Mambo, then Joomla 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.5 and 3.

Aladar joined the project in 2010 after using Jomres for his own projects. He was active on the forum, helping other members of the community and eventually Vince invited him to join the team. Between 2010 and 2018 he was an integral part of the project and made many significant contributions.

Whilst not formally part of the Jomres project, Rodrigo Rocco and Vince have become firm friends. Rod is a freelancer who specialises in doing custom work for Jomres users and developing custom plugins for the system that take advantage of it's modular design. He has built many useful extensions including his fabulous Valentina Template Override Package.
